40 Days of Faith Day 38

Worthy- Honorable; admirable

Wander- stray, deviate

Hebrews11:38 (of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

These men and women of great faith could not dwell among the heathens. Sin and idolatry were prevalent, it was hard for believers. In todays world some faithful believers have difficulties dwelling among those who do not believe.

1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in them.

John 15:19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

40 Days of Faith Day 37

Sawn asunder- sawn in two

Destitute- lacking, in want, devoid, forsaken

Hebrews 11:37 They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented.

God promises believers they will be blessed, the Holy Spirit will dwell within them and they will have eternal life in heaven. As believers we are heirs of Abraham.

Galatians 3:14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ: that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Timothy 4:8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

40 Days of Faith Day 36

Mocking- to deride or jeer

Scourging-  punishing with a whip with thongs with metal pieces or bones attached

Hebrews 11:36 And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourging, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment.

Many were beaten and put into prison for teaching and preaching in the name of Jesus Christ. These things did not deter them for they knew they were following God and leading the lost to salvation.

Acts 5: 40-42 And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name. And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

40 Days of Faith Day 35

Deliverance- to free, redeem, save deliverance the act of delivering.

Resurrection- the event when the rising again to life of all the human dead takes place.

Hebrews 11:35  Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

Many were persecuted because of their belief in Jesus Christ. When you confess Jesus as your Lord and Savior the enemy wants to keep you from the promises God has made to believers. Eternal life being the ultimate promise.

1 Corinthians 15:21, 22 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all shall die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

1 Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

40 Days of Faith Day 34

Quenched- extinguished; put out a fire

Valiant- brave, courageous

Hebrews 11:34 Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong; waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.

The spirit of God comes into believers and they are able to do what may seem impossible to those who don't believe.

1 Samuel 16:18 Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the Lord is with him.

1 Samuel 17:37 David said moreover, The Lord that delivered me out of the paw of  the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the Lord be with thee.

40 Days of Faith Day 33

Subdued- put down, humbled, conquered

Wrought- to do, to make

Hebrews 11:33 Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,

With God all things are possible. God uses circumstances and people that, in our eyes are unlikely to be able to fulfill the will of God.

Judges 14:4 But his father and his mother knew not that it was of the Lord, that he sought an occasion against the Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel.

Daniel 6:23 Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.

40 Days of Faith Day 32

Prophets-Gods' spokesmen, the divinely called minister who announced the will of God to his people.

Prophesy- foretell expound, interpret

Hebrews 11:32 And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthah; of David also and Samuel, and of the prophets.

Throughout the Bible and time God has sent his message through faithful believers. We must faithfully believe.

Judges 6:8 That the Lord sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage.

Judges 4:6 And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh-nephtali, and said unto him, Hath not the Lord God of Israel commanded saying, Go and draw toward Mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun.

40 Days of Faith Day 31

Harlot- a prostitute

Perished- passed away

Hebrews 11:31 By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.

Anyone can be used by the Lord and redeemed for, when we bless Israel God blesses us.

Joshua 2:9 And she said unto the men, I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.

Joshua 6:17 And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the LORD: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.

40 Days of Faith Day 30

Jericho- an old city in the plain between the moutains of Moab and the precipices of the west.

Compassed- surrounded or encircled

Hebrews 11:30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.

When God gives you something to do, He will give you what you need to do it.

Joshua 6:3,4 And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once, thus shalt thou do six days. And seven priest shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priest shall blow with the trumpets.

Joshua 6:20 So the people shouted when the priest blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

40 Days of Faith Day 29

Red Sea- the gulf lying between Egypt and Arabia

Assaying- attempting

Hebrews 11:29 By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.

When you follow the Lord, his commandments and his will for your life he will bring you through.

Exodus 14:16 But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.

Exodus 14:26 And the Lord said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.
