40 Days of Faith Day 28

Passover- the first of three festivals at which all men must appear at the sanctuary.The passing over or sparing of the Hebrews in Egypt when God killed the first born of the Egyptians.


Firstborn- applied to animals and human beings: the eldest child or the firstling of the flock. The firstborn of both were dedicated to the Lord.


Hebrews 11:28 Through faith he kept the passover and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.

Today we are still to give our first fruits to the Lord. The first tenth of our earnings should be given to the work of the Lord through tithing.

Exodus 11:4, 5 And Moses said, Thus saith the Lord, About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt: And all the firstborn in the Land of Egypt will die, from the firstborn of Pharoah that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maid servant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn beast.

Exodus 12:29 And it came to pass, that at midnight the Lord smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of the Pharoah that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and the firstborn of cattle.

Foresook- abandoned, left

Wrath- violent anger

Hebrews 11:27 By faith he foresook Egpyt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

We must forsake the world, because we live for Christ. We must live in the spirit and be delivered.

1 Thessalonians 1:10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

Luke 5:11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.

Reproach- dishonor, disgrace; scorn

Recompense- to reward

Hebrews 11:26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward.

Moses believed that being dishonored because of Christ was better than the riches of Epypt. Being rewarded for obeying the Lord is better than any earthly riches.

Luke 6:22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out  your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.

Matthew 5:12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

Affliction- pain, grief, distress of body or mind.


Sin- transgression of a religious or moral law.


Hebrews 11:25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season.


We must realize we are here on earth only for a season.  We must
confess the Lord Jesus as our savior and believe he died for our sins. Then we can have eternal life in heaven. We must not live in sin.


Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.


Exodus 3:7 And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by the reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows.

Refuse- to indicate unwillingness to do, accept, give or allow

Pharaoh- a king of ancient Egypt, an evil tyrant

Hebrews 11:24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharoah's daughter;

When you have faith you can come out of your comfort zone and do great things.

Exodus 2:11 And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethen.

Exodus 2:21 And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.

Afraid- to be fearful, terrified

Hebrews 11:23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the kings commandment.

When we have faith in God we should not be afraid to do what we know is right.

Exodus1:22 And Pharoah charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.

Exodus 2:2 And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

Departing- going, leaving, withdrawing

Commandment- a command or mandate

Hebrews 11:22 By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.

Joseph went through being sold by his brothers and being put in prison for a crime he did not commit.Joseph stayed faithful even when things looked impossible. We must stay faithful in times of trouble.

Genesis 50:25 And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall  carry up my bones from hence.

Genesis 37:27 Come and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites, and let not our hand upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brethren were content.

Worshipped- showed honor and respect to God

leaning - bending relying on support

Hebrews 11:21 By faith Jacob, when he was a dying blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.

We must worship the Lord our God, for he blesses us exceedingly and abundantly.

Genesis 28:13 And behold, the Lord stood above it, and said, I am the Lord the God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest to thee I will give it, and to thy seed.

Genesis 48:9 And Joseph said unto his father, They are my sons, whom God hath given me in this place. And he said Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will bless them.

Bless- to pronounce blessed or happy. God blesses by giving prosperity both temporal and spiritual or by sanctifying.

Blessed- to be or declare happy or fortunate

Hebrews 11:20 By faith Jacob blessed Isaac and Esau concerning things to come.

When we are obedient to God and live righteously and love one another, God blesses us. We must praise, pray, read the Bible and tithe.

Genesis 12:2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing.

Revelations 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and enter in through the gates
into the city.

Figure- a parable

Raise- elevate

Hebrews 11:19 Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he recieved him in a figure.

Abraham knew that God could raise Isaac from the dead.The belief that all things could be done with God, was clear to Abraham.

Genesis 22:13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked and behold and behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.

James 2:20, 21, 22 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Was not our father Abraham, justified by works, when he had offered his son Isaac upon the altar? Seeth how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

Isaac- was the seed of Abraham that God told Abraham to offer as a sacrifice

Fear- reverence, terror, carefulness, trembling

Hebrews 11:18 of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called.

Because Abraham trusted God he was not afraid to follow God's instruction, even to the point of sacrificing his only son.

Genesis 17:19 And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.

Romans 9:7 Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.

Begotten- procreated, generated

Hebrews 11:17 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,


Abaham's faith was so strong in the Lord, that he was willing to sacrifice a son he had prayed for, for years.

Genesis 22:9 And they came to the place which God had told him of: and Abraham built an altar there,and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar upon the wood.

Genesis 22:12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the  lad, neither do thou anything unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God,seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.

Heavenly- devine, celestial


Prepared- make ready equipt, arrange


Hebrews 11:16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.


They anticipated eternal life in heaven with God the father. The gift  given to us when we except Jesus as our Lord and saviour.


1 Peter 1:4 To an inheritance inccoruptible, undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you.


John 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

Mindful- thinking of


Opportunity- suitable circumstances


Hebrews 11:15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.
These people of faith had no desire to return to where they came from. They had their eyes on what God had promised them. They stepped out in faith.


Deuteronomy 1:10 The Lord your God hath multiplied you, and, behold ye are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude.


Luke 6:23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in like manner did their fathers unto prophets.

Declare- to speak or to make known


Country- land or domain


Hebrews 11:14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.


Many righteous men of God were faithful through hard times and trails, because they knew they were only here for a short time. There was no gift of eternal life, they had to follow the law to obtain the promise.


Genesis 12:1 Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:


Genesis 13:17 Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.

Strangers- one who was not an Hebrew by birth, but who still lived among them, a visitor of the land


Pilgrims- wanderers, travelers


Hebrews 11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.


We must stay in faith even unto death because, there is a greater promise. We have the promise of eternal life and the gift of the Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ.


Genesis 17:8 And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.


Galaians 3:16 Now to Abraham and to his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

Multitude- a great company, the condition or quality of being numerous


Innumberable- too numerous to be counted; numberless


Hebrews 11:12 Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, as the sand which is by the sea shore innumberable


God promised Abraham he would make him the father of nations. Although Abraham did not have a son yet he had faith in God.When you take Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior you are a son of God and the seed of Abraham.


Galatians 3:7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.


James 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness; and he was called the friend of God.

Strength- might, power, security


Faithful- as applied to God, the terms suggest God as being worthy of love and confidence from man, and that he will keep His promises with respect both to rewards and punishment.


Hebrews 11:11 Through faith also Sarah herself received her strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.


God is faithful. When we have faith in God we believe and wait patiently for answers. Believing in His promises.


Genesis 21:1 And the Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken.


1 Corithians 1:9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

40 Days of Faith Day 10

Foundations- the origin of something, the base on which a building rest.


Builder- he who constructs, builds adds or prepares.


Hebrews 11:10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.


When we put our faith in God, who is the creator of all things, our foundation is one of supernatural strength.


Luke 6:48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded on a rock.


Matthew 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock.

Hebrews Chapter 11

Hebrews chapter 11 is all about faith. When I felt the need to renew my mind, I decided to write about faith. I really did not know where to start. Then I thought about writing for thirty days, it sounded good. Turning through the pages of the Bible, I came to Hebrews chapter 11. This led to me discovering that there are 40 verses on faith in this chapter. This was no accident. God was telling me you will write about faith for fourty days and that is what I did. Read Hebrews Chapter 11 it can renew your faith and meditate on it it can strengthen your faith. Reading 40 Days of faith may help you to spend some time with the Lord. God Bless You.

40 Days of Faith Day 9

Sojourn- dwell temporarily

Tabernacle- a tent like structure, adapted to the roving life of the desert. It was the dwelling place of Gods glory.

Hebrews 11:9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise.

We are here on earth for only a short time. It is temporary our home is in heaven with the Lord. We will dwell in God's glory when we live righteously.

Acts 7:6 And God spake on this wise, That his seed should sojourn in a strange land; and that they should bring them into bondage, and entreat them evil four hundred years.

Exodus 25:8 And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them.

Heir- one who receives or is expected to receive an heritage.


Inheritance- something regarded as an heritage


Hebrews 11:8 By faith Abraham when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he
went.


That which was formerly inherited by law is now obtained by faith in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ who died for our sins, so that we my become heirs.


Galatians 4:7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.


Galatians 3:18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise

Condemn- to make judgement against or express strong disapproval of


Righteousness- morally upright without guilt or sin, purity of heart


Fruits of Faith
Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not as seen yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.


When we have faith in the Lord we must live righteously, even in the midst of an unrighteous world.


Genesis 6:13 And God said unto Noah, The end of the flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.


Genesis 7:1 And the Lord said unto Noah, come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.

Diligent- giving perservering attention, industrious, busy


Seek- search for


Hebrews 11:6 But without it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.


We must seek God in everything we do. God has a plan for all of his children. We were all created for a purpose.


1 Peter 1:10 of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you.


Deuteronomy 4:29 But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

Translation- to convey to heaven without death

Testimony- A public declaration regarding a religious experience.

Hebrews 11:5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had his testimony that he pleased God.

Because of Enoch's faithfulness God took him to heaven before he could suffer death, but only after 365 years on earth.

Genesis 5:24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

Psalm 19:7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.

Offering- a presentation made to a deity as an act of religious worship or sacrifice; an oblation.

Sacrifice- the act of offering something to a deity in propitiation or homage especially the ritual slaughter of an animal or person.

KJV Hebrews 11:4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

In the Old Testament animals were sacrificed so that sin could be frorgiven. In the New Testament sacrifice is no longer necessary because Jesus died for our sins.

Genesis 8:20 And Noah builded an altar unto the Lord: and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offering on the altar.

1 Peter 1:19, 20 But with the percious blood of Christ, as a lamb without blemish and without spot:Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

Word- scripture, the Bible, language, revelation of God

Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

The Bible is the Word of God. Everything is from God. God created the world. When you believe and seek God , you will find peace.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 Samuel 22:16 And the channels of the seas appeared, the foundations of the world were discovered, at the rebuking of the Lord, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils.

Believe- To have firm faith, especially religious faith.

Promise- A declaration,assurance, word, hope that one will or will not do something, A vow.

KJV Hebrews 11:2 For by it  the elders obtained a good report.

Men and women of the Bible had faith in God. When there was no reason for them to believe they held on to the promises of God.

Deuteronomy1:11( The Lord God of your fathers make you a thousand times so many more as you are, and bless you, as he hath promised you!)

John 20:30-31 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye must have life through his name.

What is Faith?


Faith- Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence.


Faith- Theological virtue defined as secure belief in God and a trusting of God's will.

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Faith is belief that does not rest on logical proof. There is no logical proof that Mary  became pregnant by the Holy Ghost.


KJV Matthew 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother was espoused to Joseph before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.


1 John 4:14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.
